During their “Moronic Mission” filmed on their cell phone, two men were found guilty of cutting down their beloved accessible tree

Two basic workers were found guilty of cutting down the most famous tree in Britain.

Daniel Graham, 39, and Adam Carruthers, 32, face up to ten years in prison for cutting off nicamore gap trees, creating Hadrian’s walls in the process.

Jurors found the two guilty after the friendship deteriorated and they tried to blame each other in court. After five hours of deliberation, the judgment was made after deliberation.

Both of the couple are from Cumbria and photographed their own iconic landmark in an “sultry mission” in the early hours of September 28, 2023.

Carruthers then forwarded the video to his partner as he drove off the scene.

The next morning, when the news broke the vandalism, the pair shared a social media post about the tree with Graham, who said “We Go” about Carruthers because they were “intoxicated” in news reports about crime.

Prosecutors said the two thought it would be “a little laugh” – but realized they were “not public anger caused by “the same blind-free thuggery” caused by “seeing public anger.”

Graham and Carruthers were convicted of criminal damage of £622,191 and caused £1,144 to the Hadrian wall of the UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The two defendants stared directly ahead, showing little emotion as the guilty sentence was read to the court. Carruthers sat in front of him with his hand tightly held his hand and Graham raised one hand and stroked his beard.

The sycamore has been standing for more than 100 years and has gained worldwide fame in the 1991 Kevin Costner and Morgan Freeman films Robin Hood: Thieves of Phieves.

“Although the tree has grown for more than a hundred years, the inevitable damage to the act is a few minutes of work,” prosecutor Richard Wright KC said.

Graham and Carruthers were “best friends” at the time and worked together often.

Graham’s Land Rover was picked up on the evening of September 27, 2023 on an Automatic Digital Recognition (ANPR) camera between Carlisle and Accessibility and returned early the next morning. His cell phone was traced to the cell on the same journey.

When police arrested the couple and searched Graham’s phone, they found two minutes and 41 seconds of video showing that the sycamore tree was cut down and had been sent to the Carruthers at 12:30 a.m. on September 28.

They also found photos and videos of wedge-shaped trunks and chainsaws in Graham’s Range Rover’s boots, although never found.

The next day, news and voices between Graham and Carruthers showed that they were talking about the story “wild” and “virus”, referring to “operation like we did last night”, joked that the damage looked like it was caused by professionals.

A man named Kevin Hartness posted information about the tree on Facebook, writing: “Some weak people walk this earth; disgusting behavior.

Carruthers sent the post to Graham and later sent a voice saying, “I would like to see Kevin Hartness launch an operation like last night…I don’t think he has minerals.”

Last August, Graham made an anonymous call, trying to hint at his friend and save himself.

The police immediately realized his voice because he told them, “A young man [did] Adam Carruthers, who brought the chainsaw home.

“Anonymous Caller” said that if police searched Carruthers’ houses and workshops, they would find saws and a portion of cut trees, as well as shotguns and pistols.

However, no guns, chainsaws or tree wedges were found.

On December 1, 2024, a few days after the initial trial began, Graham took to Facebook to accuse Carruthers of cutting down the tree and posted a series of images from his former friends.

“I really can’t do it,” he wrote.

“There are pictures of me everywhere. OK, this is a picture of a man [the] Hidden face.

In a cross-examination with Mr. Wright, Graham tries to justify his friend.

He said Carruthers and a colleague tried to intimidate him for the responsibility of cutting down trees and insisted that the criminal justice system would be loose against him due to his mental health problems.

He added: “If someone is going to spend my money and influence my business, then I will raise grass. No doubt he [Carruthers] It’s the one holding the chainsaw. Adam fell down the tree, and I don’t know who the other person is.

“I was annoyed by my business for his actions.”

To explain the evidence for his digital board and phone website, Graham insisted that Carruthers and his accomplices took his phone to his car and drove uninformed to the barrier-free gap while he was sleeping in the station wagon.

As far as Caruss is concerned, he does not directly accuse Graham of being involved in cutting the tree.

But he insisted that the tree was cut down and he tried to take his partner and young children to dinner at Metrocentre in Gateshead, but turned around because their 11-day-old baby was upset.

Jurors rejected these fragile cases and found that the criminal damage caused to the crime was consistently posed by the criminal damage worth £622,191 and £1,144 against the Hadrian Wall, a UNESCO World Heritage Site owned by the National Trust.

They now face up to ten years in prison.

The iconic tree that attracted the imagination of the world: The gap in the helpless land became the background of Hollywood blockbusters and the location of helicopter crashes, almost killing the national treasure

After appearing in Kevin Costner’s 1991 film, Sycamore Gap is known as the Robin Hood tree, one of the most photographed trees in the country.

It stands next to Hadrian’s Wall near Crag Lake, Northumberland, and is believed to have been planted in the early 18th century.

It is said to have stood with others but ended up being the only one leftover – making it particularly photogenic.

In Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, a hero played by Costner – sees his fighter Azeem pulling leaves from the tree as Warrior Azeem walks down.

The tree also appears in a music video of American star Bryan Adams’ hit music (everything I do) and I do it for you, which is the soundtrack of Costner’s Robin Hood movie.

In 2003, when a helicopter was filming the documentary series British Islands, the tree escaped the loss – natural history hit less than 100 feet.

Four ships on the plane were injured, but host Alan Titchmarsh, who was standing on the ground, nearly escaped.

Titchmarsh said at the time: “I was shocked, and I was worried that the modern shipper would explode. The crew climbed out and ran like hell.

Witnesses added one: ‘Alan Titchmarsh is lucky not to be hit.

“When the helicopter dropped, he was almost under the helicopter, but it fell.

The plane landed on its side, and everyone, including Alan, ran to help. Everyone was surprised that the crew was not seriously injured.
