Newcastle United’s Eddie Howe has been diagnosed with pneumonia and is believed to be on the road to recovery.

The 47-year-old former central defender was taken to a hospital in Tyneside, northern England on the evening of April 11, according to the Guardian.

The former AFC Bournemouth player has participated in a series of tests over the past weekend.

In an article on X, the club announced that it was “recovered in the hospital after being diagnosed with pneumonia.”

In addition, it sends its best wishes and support to the manager and his family. It added: “Quick recovery, grant.”


After he was taken to hospital, fans of the club waited for an official statement regarding his health update, but nothing was shared till Sunday.On April 14, the club issued a statement and announced Howe’s diagnosis and even released a message from the manager wherein he thanked the medical staff along with the football community for the best wishes.In his message, Howe said he wanted to thank everyone connected with Newcastle United as well as the wider football community for the messages and warm wishes.

He added: “I also want to pay tribute to our incredible NHS and the hospital staff who treated me.”

Howe continued that he was “very grateful” for the professional care he received and looked forward to returning to the team during his recovery.

Newcastle United upcoming matches

Eddie Howe’s assistant Jason Tindall will play against Crystal Palace at home on Wednesday before playing against Aston Villa on Saturday. Graeme Jones helped Tindall in the absence of Howe.

As of now, it is not clear when Howe will resume work, but the club is expected to provide another update on his health following this weekend’s game against Aston Villa.

Newcastle United won 4-1 on Sunday, which included support from Harvey Barnes and a goal from Sandro Tonali and Bruno Guimarães.

Interestingly, despite being far from St. James Park, Howe watched his team act on TV on the hospital bed.

Tindall won one side and the manager sent him a text message, but added that he hadn’t talked to him for a few days.
