Minister of Electricity SS Sivasankar
Electricity Minister SS Sivasankar said on Saturday that electricity demand in Tamil Nadu has so far been lower than last year due to rainfall in parts of the state.
He said in a speech by reporters in Chennai that wind power generation has also been connected. Tamil Nadu reached an all-time peak demand of 20,830 MW on May 2, 2024 and reached a record 454.32 million units per day consumption on April 30, 2024. The state’s peak demand is 19,864 MW, with overall energy demand being the overall energy demand in April 2025, such as Central Electricity Wistrication’s April 2025. According to data from the Southern Regional Load Hosting Center, the largest demand met on May 16 was 1,868 MW.
In a public complaint caused by extreme summer heat and severe weather conditions, Mr Sivasankar reviewed the operations of the 24×7 Consumer Complaints Centre “Minnagam” at Tangko Headquarters. He noted that in order to handle complaints effectively, Minnagam’s employee strength increased from May 5 to 94 from the early strength of the 65-year-old.
Mr Sivasankar directed officials to pay special attention to frequent power interruptions and to identify and resolve potential issues without delay. There is no gap between demand and power supply in the state. All measures have been taken to address the current summer and the upcoming monsoon period, according to the press release.
