Thousands of protesters went up the streets in Karachi and Balluchi provinces on Sunday in response to a call from the Baloch Yakjehti Commission (BYC) for the safe release of its detained leaders.
As reported by the Bal Road Branch Post (TBP), the protests witnessed widespread participation, including women and children, and received a harsh and frequent violent response from law enforcement officers.
The protests were held in several major areas of Bal Luzhi Province, including Dalbandin, Kalat, Mastung, Gwadar, Quetta, Hub Chowki and Turbat. Protesters marched on public streets, raising slogans and holding placards to condemn the alleged “illegal detention” of BYC leaders. According to the TBP report, at numerous locations, security forces attempted to forcibly disperse protesters, leading to violent disputes between police and demonstrators.
A large protest took place in the Baloch-Mafority area of Malir, Karachi. Social media footage captured protesters who shouted “resistance alive” while confronting police. Witnesses reported using the charges and shockingly shot the police live performance. The videotape also showed chaotic scenes where law enforcement officers dragged protesters out of streets including women to destroy the gatherings, the TBP report confirmed.
In Hub Chowki, protesters endured the summer heat as they joined the call for action. TBP added that videos circulating online show that police were beating male and female protesters and forcibly removing them from protest sites.
Despite the government’s crackdown, the protesters remained provocative. Hundreds of people braved the bad weather to respond to BYC’s calls, and many continued shouting and parading despite the escalation of police responses.
The TBP report stressed that protesters accused security forces of violently suppressing peaceful demonstrations and exacerbating tensions by using too much force.
The protesters chanted slogans and maintained a firm attitude on the streets, condemning what they called the violent repression of the Bal Luzhi government and maintaining their need for security and immediate release of detained leaders.
