Erin Patterson should experience ‘adverse results’ from lunch
Erin Patterson claims she only ate half of the beef Wellington at the deadly lunch, covered with death cap mushrooms.
Days after lunch, Patterson made a request to hospital staff and child protection officers, claiming the lives of his parents-in-law Don and Gale Patterson and Gale’s sister Heather Wilkinson.
The jury has heard that Gail Patterson has eaten only half of her size beef Wellington, and her husband has done the rest.
Unlike Patterson, this part was enough to make Gail violently sick within a few hours and eventually kill her.
On Friday, Dr. Dimitri Gerostamoulos, head of forensic science at the Victoria Institute of Forensic Sciences, suggested that Patterson’s part should give her “adverse results.”
Death Cap Mushrooms May Be Mistaked for Edible, Jury Heard
Defense attorney Sophie Stafford advised Ms. McKenzie to remove the Death Cap mushroom because she fears someone would mistake them for edible mushrooms.
Ms. McKenzie agreed. The jury heard that she didn’t return to the scene even though she was worried that they would grow.
Death cap taken from the lake
Ms Mackenzie said she tried to remove the Death Cap mushroom from Victoria Town Lake.
The jury learned that she was able to identify the mushrooms due to training and she was eager to remove them for safety reasons.
Prosecutor Jane Warren asked if more mushrooms could be grown in the area. Ms. McKenzie agreed.
Death Cap Mushroom Poison Expert
Christine McKenzie, a former senior poison information expert at the Victorian Poison Information Center, was the first witness to be called.
Death cap mushrooms usually grow between March and May, she explained. Several factors must be correct, including temperature and moisture.
Mushroom murder trial enters week 4
Patterson will face the fourth week of the Supreme Court trial on Monday.
Patterson pleaded not guilty to the murder of three lunch guests who killed her and the murder of Rev. Ian Wilkinson (the only survivor of the deadly lunch).
