ESIC considers opening 10 new medical colleges in India

New Delhi, April 22 (PTI) Employee State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) is considering establishing 10 new medical colleges nationwide to serve its subscribers in areas that are not leveraged or underserved.
Union Labor Minister Mansukh Mandaviya here told reporters that the 10 new medical colleges have been in Pune, Manesar, Kollam, Kollam, Surat, Vishakhapatnam, Bhubaneshwar, Asansol, Nagpur, Pandunagar and Margaon.
He also said that in Andheri, Basaidarapur, Guwahati-Beltola, Indore, Jaipur, Ludhiana, Basaidarapur, Bapunagar, Noida, Noida, Varanasi and Ranchi, these ten medical schools will be set up.
ESIC has approved the establishment of 10 new medical schools at its 194th session.
The minister further informed that ESIC is also committed to integrating with Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY) to provide comprehensive cashless medical services to more than 144 million beneficiaries.
ESIC beneficiaries will be able to award treatment to hospitals at PMJay.
He said there will be no cap on spending for ESIC beneficiaries.
ESIC has also developed a policy to expand health care through primary health centers (PHCs) and community health centers (CHCs) (CHCs) through non-implemented and partially implemented areas to ensure that these areas receive ESIC benefits deemed to beneficiaries in these areas.
The minister said in 2014 that the plan was implemented in 393 regions and has now expanded to 691 regions (as of April 21, 2025). Of these 691 regions, 592 were fully notified, while 99 regions were partially notified. ESIC has not notified up to 87 regions.
The minister noted that the scheme was recently notified in eight districts of Nagarland and 15 districts in Uttar Pradesh, which will provide social security for 76,274 IPS (insured) and their families.
Further informing one area of Odisha and Uttar Pradesh, two areas of Maharashtra and six areas of Bihar were underway.
