The Maharashtra government plans to purchase designated land for the memorial construction. The order comes a few days after Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced the anniversary of Maratha King’s birth. “Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj will be arrested in the Agra city, and will be acquired by the Maharashtra government and a grand memorial will be established there with the necessary funds in the budget,” the government’s order issued on Friday said.
Lack of monuments
The memorial will include museums, audio-visual programs, documentaries and more to provide visitors with information about the history of Maratha.

The decision comes amid growing controversy in Maharashtra about the grave of Aurangzeb, even though the 395th anniversary of the birth of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj has been recently celebrated.
