Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis slammed the state banker board at the 167th session of the Maharashtra chapter on Monday (May 19, 2025) and praised the farmers and issued a strict warning to them.

He urged the SLBC to take action against all bank branches that continue to seek farmers’ CIBIL scores, saying the action continues in the state despite previous FIR and guidelines from the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). He also asked state-owned banks to take special efforts to increase the amount of loans to farmers this fiscal year.

“The loan is provided to farmers without the conditions for CIBIL scores. If the farmers are not provided, it has an impact on the economy and leads to suicide by the farmers. This meeting should urgently find a solution to the solution. The government has previously registered for FIRS and has previously approved the bank’s CIBIL scores against farmers, but you also need to identify this issue. Today the meeting will take strict action for such branches to seek farmers’ cibil scores.” Mr Fadnavis said.

Monday’s meeting also approved the state’s draft credit for Rs 44,76,806.8 crore for fiscal 2025-26.

CIBIL scores are records of the borrower’s credit history that are used to evaluate the ability to borrow money to repay.

“The country is not facing drought this year. Crop yields will be good. The meteorological sector has forecasts for a good monsoon. All state-owned banks should focus on increasing credibility for farmers. Agriculture is an important part of the state’s economy. It cannot be ignored,” CM said.

The economy of Maharashtra

He said Maharashtra has spanned $50 trillion in economic trademarks and they attract banks, i.e. their role is crucial to bringing the country into a million dollar economy. “Maharashtra is the capital of startups. Banks should also pay attention to them. They will lead to a large number of jobs in the state,” he said.

Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde said banks should pay special attention to female entrepreneurs.
