Alphabet’s Google plans to appeal the “adverse” part of the court’s decision in the U.S. Department of Justice’s monopoly case against the tech giant.
On Thursday, U.S. District Court Judge Leonie Brinkema found Google was responsible for “deliberate acquisition and maintenance of monopoly rights” in the markets of publishers’ advertising servers and advertising exchanges.
Publisher Ad Server is a platform used by websites to store and manage their digital ad lists. In addition to advertising exchanges, the technology allows news publishers and other online content providers to make money by selling ads.

The judge also ruled that Google illegally dominated two markets of online advertising technology.
The company said Friday that the judge issued a different decision, she ruled that the Justice Department failed to show that Google’s advertiser tools or the acquisition of Doubleclick and Admeld were anti-competitive, but that Google’s publisher tools violated antitrust laws, including antitrust laws.
The Justice Department has said that Google must at least sell its Google Ad Manager, which includes the company’s publisher ad server and advertising exchange.
