Female-led business develops in Odisha’s predominantly tribal Kalahandi

Karahandi (Odisha): In an important step towards promoting rural entrepreneurship, Vedanta Aluminum, the largest aluminum producer in India, has expanded key support for the female-led self-help group (SHG) located in the heart of the tribal sect in the Kalahandi region of Odisha.
As part of its ongoing community development program, the company provides essential machinery for slipper manufacturing, cardboard production and rice milling to make revenues generate and promote the development of micro-enterprises for rural women. The initiative aims to create avenues for long-term financial independence and economic resilience in one of the most socio-economic challenges in the country.
Vedanta also conducted a capacity-building workshop for 45 women from 45 women (SHGs) from three self-help groups (SHGs), providing them with skills in business management, marketing and financial planning. Led by subject matter experts, the program attempts to enhance participants’ business acumen and confidence in market dynamics.
Kalendiri Dhangada Majhi, secretary of Maa Lankeswari SHG, said: “We thank Vedanta for continuing its commitment to strengthening women’s livelihoods. This initiative not only provides us with the tools, but also provides skills to build sustainable businesses.”
“Empowering women is our vision for inclusive growth. In areas marked by miserable immigration and acute poverty, we have witnessed inspiring stories of women becoming confident entrepreneurs and community leaders.”
With initiatives like “Project Panchhi” and “Shree Shakti Project”, Vedanta continues to shape one of the most comprehensive CSR ecosystems in the region.
