Indian potential bride cautious NRI groom

Hyderabad: There was a time when the “NRI groom” was a shorthand for success, security and a glittering future in foreign countries. The family would mention “settling in the United States” and jump on the docking boat. But now, for many Telugu families, the NRI groom is no longer the most popular game.
Despite their financial stability or global lifestyle, families and brides become cautious while considering NRI’s marriage proposals. The changes brought about by US President Donald Trump are related to this.
Over the years, NRI, especially from the United States, has been considered an ideal life partner as Indian families pursue an international lifestyle. But the family is now getting rid of the idea with a few concerns.
One of the biggest problems is work insecurity. With the frequent layoffs in the technology and software industries abroad, families hesitantly chose the groom with unstable career prospects.
“They may earn in dollars today, but if he loses his job tomorrow, it’s almost his game, which is almost a game for him,” said Lavanya Reddy, the mother who is currently looking for a game for her daughter.
Visa issues and changes in U.S. immigration rules are another growing concern. Many families do not regard life as a safe choice. K. Prakash Rao, a local matchmaker in the city, said: “Many brides want NRI proposals. But, they call back one by one and ask the local groom. When asked why, they said the United States said the United States was sending immigrants back. So, they were no longer interested in NRI Groom.”
“I’m in contact with someone currently in Nizamabad, who is currently in the US. He is waiting for his visa extension. What if he gets stuck and can’t come back?” potential bride Anusha Reddy said.
She further said: “I see a lot of cousins and friends living in the United States who are worried about what will happen with their visas. Living in the United States is no longer easy.”
Prakash Rao added: “There’s a clear shift in people who choose locals over NRIs. They noticed that couples living in the United States are having problems and chose not to go this path.”
