The Sikkim government has accelerated the infrastructure development of Kailash Mansarovar Yatra through Nathu La, a mountain pass for the Himalayas that links the state to China’s Tibet Autonomous Region.
After the pilgrimage to Mount Kailash and Mansarovar Lake, it will resume after a five-year gap, with religious significance to Hindus as well as to jana and Buddhists.

MLA Thinlay Tshering Bhutia said two adaptive centers were established between the national capital Gangtok and Nasol Los Angeles, and the pilgrims have also developed functional toilets and other travel-related infrastructure for the pilgrims.
The pass is located in the Kabi-Lungchok constituency of Bhutia, and lawmakers told reporters that he is evaluating the ground situation to further enhance the facilities in Mansarovar Yatris.
The Foreign Ministry said last month that YATRA will be conducted through two routes from June to August – Lipulekh Pass in Uttarakhand and Nathu La in Sikkim.
“Sikkim is a peaceful country, which is the main USP for traveling through the Nasolah border,” Butia said in the presence of officials from the Forest, Tourism and Rural Development Department.
He said the Nathu La route and its available roads will provide pilgrims with a safe and better travel experience.
Yatra was initially suspended in 2020, due to the pandemic on the 19th and followed by a military standoff between the Eastern Line of Actual Control (LAC) in Ladakh.
Under the treaty sealed on October 21 last year, the Indian and Chinese troops completed the disengagement of troops at the remaining two friction points in Demchuk and Debang.
In January, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri visited Beijing and held talks with his Chinese rival Sun Weidong. At the meeting, both sides decided to restore Kailash Mansarovar Yatra and agreed to take certain human-centered steps to “stabilize and rebuild” the connection.
“This year, each batch consists of 50 Yatris and 10 batches, each of which consists of 50 Yatris, is planned to cross the Uttarakhand state on Lipulekh Pass, cross the Sikkim state on Sikkim state and the Nathu La Pass, respectively,” the MEA said in a statement earlier. ”
The MLA said public representatives and officials from various government departments accompanied him during his visit to the facility and considered ways to further develop existing infrastructure.
“We have discussed many development plans for the region. Now, we will prepare a detailed estimate and submit it to the Ministry of Tourism,” Butia said.
