PAK tries to strengthen relations with us when Congressional delegation visits the country

Pakistan is trying to deepen its ties with the United States by proposing to strengthen cooperation and cooperation in several key areas, as the U.S. Congressional delegation visited the country on new tariffs. The minister said that in the new geopolitical reality, it is necessary to establish a new balance based on basic reality, mutual trust and development-centric partnerships.
He pointed out that the strong partnership between the two countries has contributed greatly to regional stability and global peace, especially in a global turbulent environment.

Iqbal highlights the need to understand Pakistan’s socio-economic challenges after two U.S.-led wars in the region.


In the agricultural sector, the minister noted that the Green Revolution was successful in the 1960s through the support of the United States, which helped Pakistan achieve food security by introducing high-yield wheat varieties. In the face of climate change, he called for a “Green Revolution 2.0” and advocated smart and climate-rich agriculture through technology transfer and joint ventures. He also briefed the delegation on the burden of more than 3.5 million refugees over thirty years, the importance of the Fulbright scholarship program, and mentioned the devastating floods of 2022, which resulted in economic losses of more than $30 billion. The minister stressed the need to build new foundations on bilateral ties, especially in education, energy, climate change, infrastructure and information technology.

He proposed more collaboration in the field of education, urging the importance of the PAK-US Knowledge Corridor and the establishment of campuses at the top American universities in Pakistan. He also urged cooperation on climate resilience and disaster preparedness.

The U.S. delegation stressed the need to allow the private sector to unlock investment opportunities and build investor confidence.

The Congressional delegation was due to Pakistan’s efforts to offset the new U.S. tariffs and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s influence, saying that a high-level delegation would be sent to the United States to resolve the issue. The Trump administration imposed a 29% tariff on Pakistan.

However, the country excludes any retaliatory tariffs to address the impact of U.S. migration.
