For Mukesh Ambani, the good news is that Jiohotstar has more than 200 million subscribers, becoming the third largest in the world…

This rapid growth is mainly due to Jiohotstar’s low price and its live coverage of the Indian Premier League (IPL) in multiple languages.

Mukesh Ambani’s largest streaming platform, Jiohotstar, has crossed a major milestone by reaching over 200 million paid subscribers. Now, it is the third largest video streaming service in the world, following Netflix and Amazon Prime video.

This rapid growth is mainly due to Jiohotstar’s low price and its live coverage of the Indian Premier League (IPL) in multiple languages. The platform has become a favorite among millions of viewers nationwide.

The news was announced by Jiostar Vice Chairman Uday Shankar. He shared the news between a joint venture between Reliance Industries Ltd and Walt Disney Co., which now co-operates JioHotstar.

“This makes us one of the largest streaming services in the world,” Shankar said, also calling the achievement of 200 million paid users “satisfactory”.

Jiohotstar only supports Netflix and Prime videos in global streaming competitions. With the growth of the OTT (top) market in India, global streaming companies are facing fierce competition from local giants such as Jiohotstar.

While sports content such as IPL has been enhanced by the rise of JioHotstar, other platforms are still developing different strategies. Netflix is investing in original Indian content, while Prime Video is working with services like Apple TV+ and Crunchyroll.

Shankar also mentioned that the company aims to bring all possible audiences in India to its platform. “Our ambition is to attract every potential customer in the country,” he said, highlighting their focus on coverage and content diversity.

With its affordable and strong sports products, Jiohotstar will challenge global streaming giants in the coming years. The battle between the Mukesh Ambani platform and global leaders such as Netflix and Amazon will only intensify.
