BCCI sack coaches Abhishek Nayar and T Dilip after India’s poor performance in Australia

ANI reported that the Cricket Control Board of India (BCCI) decided to split up with assistant coach Abhishek Nayar and two other coaching staff, ANI reportedly reported that ANI reported.

BCCI also waived its role as field coach T Dilip and trainer Soham, as the governing body had previously hinted at a review of the personnel who had completed a three-year term in the national team.

The decision comes in a series of bad results for the Indian cricket team, especially after a defeat in the Test Series against New Zealand and Australia last year.
Nayar’s role was under scrutiny as the team lacked momentum after his all-time victory in Perth led to a 1-3 series. His “obvious touch” with Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), an assistant coach and working with Gambhir, has raised concerns among BCCI officials.

Nayar joined former Dutch star Ryan Ten Dochate to join Indian supporters on a white ball tour in Sri Lanka, but their contributions didn’t meet expectations. Interestingly, Nayar was only eight months after his role as assistant coach.

The side of Rohit Sharma’s leadership faced great scrutiny during the BGT, losing 3-1, not only did the team perform below expectations, but the situation was further exacerbated by reports of internal discord and locker room leaks. Interestingly, Nayar was only eight months after his role as assistant coach. South Africa’s Adrian Le Roux will step in to take over Soham’s responsibilities, while the other two positions remain open.

Le Roux, who is currently associated with the Indian Premier League (IPL) Punjab Kings (PBKS), has a long history in the history of IPL, previously working with Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) from 2008 to 2019.

In addition to coach changes, BCCI’s supreme committee also considered potential adjustments to the player’s annual central contract.

While there will be an official announcement only after May 25, speculation suggests that high-profile players like Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and Ravindra Jadeja can be removed from the A+ category as they recently retired from T20 Internationals.

However, conflicting reports indicate that significant deletion of the A+ category may not occur and changes may be seen at other contract levels.

Among these changes, BCCI has also issued strict guidelines for senior men’s cricket teams aimed at improving discipline and promoting team unity during domestic and international tours. These guides involve travel logistics, luggage restrictions and family access, which strengthens expectations of players traveling with their teams to maintain cohesion and discipline. Any exception to this rule must be approved by the head coach and the chair of the selection committee.
