Former MLA waving a sickle at an event near Avudaiyarkoil; the video spreads

A video shows former DMK MLA UDOYAM Shanmugam waving a sickle and allegedly threatening contractors at a foundation ceremony near Avudaiyarkoil, which triggered a storm and triggered friction between DMK and its congressional allies.

The incident occurred on Friday at the opening ceremony of a new fire department building in Poongudi, presided over by district fire officer Sathyakeerthi and attended by Congress MLA St Ramachandran.

Mr Shanmugam reportedly felt frustrated by not being invited, and he met with the people present. After being handed to the coconut and the sickle, he was seen waving the sickle while asking the contractor about the lack of intimacy.

Speech HinduMr Shanmugam said: “Even the Minister of DMK was not invited. When I tried to perform the ceremony, the Congress staff imposed abuse on me and my party. I responded while holding the sickle – it was not a threat. The MLA was behind the provocation.”

Mr Ramachandran said: “The video clearly shows that I was standing with folded hands. Mr Shanmugam created a scene. According to my request at the conference, the project was approved. He was late and ruined the incident. As far as his motivations are concerned. I have no comments, and a few other members of the DMK besides him.”

Tensions between the two parties surfaced at a DMK open meeting held in Amaranadakki, Avudaiyarkoil, to mark the four-year achievements of the government. During the event, Mr Shanmugam publicly stated that during his tenure as MLA, he brought more developments than lawmakers in Congress. He said he would urge DMK High to order not to allocate Avudaiyarkoil seats to Congress in the future and believe that the ruling party has a stronger foundation and its vote ensures the success of the coalition in the region.
