Forum orders OPSIS to pay Rs 4 lakh to students

Hyderabad:The dream of a hotel management graduate working in a luxury hotel abroad became a traumatic experience as he was asked to work as a worker after landing in Malaysia. After facing many difficulties, regional consumers questioned Hyderabad’s Remedial Committee – directing him to compensate Rs 4 lakh for losses suffered for causing misleading overseas resettlement.

ch.J. Raghava Reddy completed her diploma at the Chennai Institute and received a two-year position in Malaysia. After pledging to work in a five-star hotel, he paid Rs 2.5 lakh through OPSIS consulting firm. After arriving in Malaysia in December 2023, his passport was taken away and he was told to accept despicable jobs as a cleaner or worker.

When he argued, he was eliminated between low-paying jobs and was asked to pay more for visa renewal. After struggling for several months, he returned home in March 2024 and contacted the Consumer Council.

The committee found that OPSIS consulting firm misled the victims in the case and failed to inform or defend. The complaints accused of being against the Chennai Institute were also dismissed because there was no evidence of direct involvement in the resettlement process. The committee said the institute was found to promote only ties and did not directly provide work abroad.

Raghava Reddy demanded compensation of Rs 1 million, but the commission awarded Rs 4 million, noting that the amount was fair given the pain he experienced.
