Delhi-NCR is slammed for storms and heavy rains; IMD issues weather alert

The incident occurred as Delhi and the national capital area were hit by strong rainfall, thunderstorms and strong winds on Friday morning. The downpour gave relief to the ongoing heat waves, but caused extensive damage throughout the city. Strong gusts reached 78 kmph in some areas, recorded between 5:30 and 5:50 am. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) said there could be more rain and thunderstorms throughout the day, warning that it could damage trees, power cords and poorly maintained structures.

The storm caused the metal structure to collapse at Delhi Airport Terminal 3, while several major routes, including the area near the Akshadham overpass, face severe water supply.
