FOX ONE: FOX CORP launches streaming platform FOX ONE, targeting “rope”

Fox Corp will launch its own direct-to-consumer streaming service, Fox One, ahead of the National Football League (NFL) season this fall. According to Variety News, the announcement was announced on a company’s quarterly earnings call on Monday, May 12.
The streaming service Fox One is designed specifically for “rope player” – an audience that has never subscribed to a cable or satellite service.
FOX ONE will report that both live streaming and on-demand access to a wide range of Fox channels, including Fox, Fox News, Fox Business and Fox Weather. The package will also have all FOX Sports Channels, Fox Deportes, BTN and local Fox stations. Additionally, viewers can include Fox Nation.

FOX ONE: Pricing Strategy for Cable Retention

A CNBC report noted that the pricing structure of FOX ONE has not been completed. However, CEO Lachlan Murdoch told the media that this would reflect the cost of paid TV wholesale rates and would not weaken the cable bundle.

Murdoch claims that it would be a failure if cable viewers are lost and more connected subscribers are attracted. The report added that Fox hopes Fox wants to expand its audience rather than sever existing wired consumers. Wired users will have access to Fox One at no extra cost. FoxCorporation also reveals the plan for fox One, which is being launched to attract streaming-loving audiences, bundled with other streaming services. Murdoch noted that several platforms have already entered into bundled partnerships with Fox, many of which will be confirmed soon.

Pete Distad leads Fox One

Fox Corp’s new streaming division will be led by Pete Distad, former executive of Apple and Hulu. Recently, Distad led the “failure” Venu Sports, a joint venture between Disney and Warner Bros. Discovery. The project was put on hold after the legal challenge, and then each company took a separate approach.

Speaking of Fox One, Distad said the platform is built from the ground and it will feature advanced personalization technology to enhance audience engagement.

Super Bowl Raises Income

The announcement comes as Fox reported strong quarterly results as their total revenue reached $4.37 billion, a year-on-year increase of 27%. Much of the proceeds are attributed to Super Bowl Lix, which tax brings advertising revenues to more than $2 billion.

Some ads are priced at $8 million, with an estimated 128 million viewers watching the game.

Fox reportedly still operates its ad-supported free service, Tubi, which also played the Super Bowl. But FOX ONE will be its first service based on a wide range of subscription streaming.
