Police said on Sunday (20 April 20, 2025) that nine people were arrested by Andhra Pradesh police in connection with theft of 900 engines at the Kia Automobile Factory in Sri Sathya Sai area.
Penukonda court returned the defendants to 14 days of judicial custody as police continued to investigate mass theft that shocked the auto industry.
Police told PTI: “Only 10% of the investigation was completed. Nine people were arrested and we are investigating the method of the crime.”
In addition, police revealed that the stolen engines were smuggled and sold in several states in India, indicating a wide range of illegal networks operating outside the Andhra Pradesh border.
During an internal audit of its facilities last month, Kia officials found the engine was missing.
A formal complaint was filed with local police on March 19.
