Mohanlal and Prithviraj Sukumaran’s L2E: Empuraan may have been open to packaged houses, but it has also received quite a bit of criticism. Many netizens were disappointed with the internet and slammed the Malayalam superstar for producing “anti-Indian propaganda” movies.
Directed by Prithviraj Sukumaran, L2E is the second part of the planned trilogy. This socio-political drama centers around Khureshi-ab’raam aka Stephen Needumpally (Mohanlal) and follows events following its prequel Lucifer (2019). The film was released in theaters on Thursday, March 27 and is highly anticipated. The film’s global box office price was 60 crore on the first day, and received positive reviews from critics and audiences.
However, a number of netizens have slammed L2E manufacturers and even slammed Mohanlal in order to produce a “promotional” film for Indians. Netizens shared their disappointment with X and wrote tweets in the thread. After learning the highly criticized scenario, few people even canceled their tickets. Some fans wrote that they felt “scammered” and even called on Mohanlar to be stripped of his honorary lieutenant. One of the netizens slammed Prithviraj and wrote: “Prithviraj Sukumaran demonstrates the art of making A-level promotional films.”
I canceled my booking tickets not only based on this review, but few have mentioned this narrative of nonsense, about Bajrang Dal, Ed, Central Govt, etc…@mohanlal Make you feel sad about such a propagandist https://t.co/w7gvrajte2 pic.twitter.com/d0yaqsebpm

What is the scene of troubled netizens?
The film begins with a 15-minute public riot. It referenced the 2002 Godra train burning incident and the subsequent riots. There is a scene in the movie where a Muslim village is attacked by a Hindu mob and a pregnant Muslim woman is raped by a Hindu man. The above scene seems to be a reference to the Bilkis Bano case, where 11 men were convicted of rape and murder of several family members.
The roles like Baba Bajrangi also seem to be referring to Bajrang Dal leader Babu Bajrangi, who was sentenced to life imprisonment in the Naroda Patiya massacre. Regardless of the reaction, the film grossed Rs 100 million worldwide in two days and as the trend evolved, it will be the highest-grossing Malayalam film after EID.
