Funds abused in the name of dog sterilization

Kurnool:With the summer vacation activities, the children are actively playing on the street, and there are red flags – dogs are wandering around.
Citizen authorities in Kurnool, Nandyal and Adoni are taking steps to curb the growing threat of stray dogs. The increase in dog bites (nearly 8,800 cases in the past three years) is a public concern, prompting officials to step up sterilization and vaccination measures.
Each dedicated sterilization center is established in the cities of Kurnour, Nandiyar and Amkur for surgery. This will help curb stray dog populations.
The dog undergoing surgery will remain observed for three days to cut the ear and then release it. A senior municipal official in Nandyal said each operation is expected to cost about Rs 1,400.
The threat posed by stray dogs became severe in the summer, when children spent more time playing outdoors. There are cases where they are hunted or bitten. A child died of rabies recently. Fear between parents.
Afterwards, the state government asked urban local institutions to strengthen sterilization and vaccination. However, its funds exploit lack of transparency.
In the past few years, a lot of money has been spent in various towns – Rs 5 million in Kurnool, Rs 10-15 million in Adoni, Rs 55,000 in done. In ATMAKUR, Rs 20,000 to 40,000 per year are allocated for this purpose. However, the result is zero. In the past five years, the cities of Yemmiganur and Gudur have not conducted such operations.
Under the current plan, the Dog Birth Control Center will serve multiple areas: the Adoni Center will cover Yemmiganur; the Kurnool Center will serve Nandikotkur, Gudur and Dhone; and the Nandyal Center will support Atmakur, Allagadda and Bethamcherla Nagar Panchayats.
Officials say these efforts will greatly reduce the threat of stray dogs and ensure public places for children and citizens are safer.
