Future plans are for India, but the focus is on winning the IPL with DC: Abhishek Porel

Like any other cricketer in the country, the young Delhi capital opener Abishek Porel hopes to represent India in the future, but his current focus is to help his side win the first Indian Premier League trophy this year. The 22-year-old chased 160 goals and scored 51 goals on 36 to help DC win in eight wickets against the Lucknow Super Giants on Tuesday.

“Obviously, I like every inning that develops in every inning. The future plan is to play for India, to play for the country for a long time,” Porell said in a post-match press conference.

“But the focus is on the IPL trophy, how should I help the team win the trophy, how should I contribute to DC. It’s important.
“I know my games and support staff know that, too. Support staff always tell me to play freely and not to bear any tension.”

When asked about hitting, LSG shared 87 runs with Aiden Markram (52) and Mitchell Marsh (45) and 87 runs with a 10-point opening booth.

But DC bowlers led from the front with Mukesh Kumar (4/33), limiting LSG to 159 of 6, and Porel felt that was an available target. “The wicket was very good, so the 160 score was smaller, so we have to remember that we needed to chase these runs. Win. There wasn’t a lot of difference, but the captain made a good decision,” Porell said. “They (LSG) were running initially, but we knew we could limit them in the middle. We had a good spinner, so we supported ourselves and made a comeback in the second half.”

LSG assistant coach Vijay Dahiya said the host lost momentum in the second half after a bright start.

“I think leaving the court, you can see that we scored over 80 times in 9 games. From there we lost momentum. We have momentum and we should take advantage of that,” he said.

“Let us be worth mentioning.
