Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma claimed on Tuesday (May 6, 2025) that Elizabeth Colburn Gogogo, the wife of MP Gaurav Gogoi, had a “good relationship” with the Pakistani army.

At a press conference, Mr Salma claimed that Ms. Kolben had travelled 19 times between India and Pakistan and Pakistani Army officials accompanied her in neighboring countries.

“She worked in Pakistan and then came to Delhi to work for a NGO, but continued to receive her salary from Pakistan,” the CM said.

Mr Salma claimed that even Mr Gogoy had “visited Pakistan as a personal rather than an official capacity” and stayed there for 15 days.

“His wife was with him, but she returned seven days later and Gogoi stayed for another seven days. He had to explain his 15 days in Pakistan,” CM said.

“It is necessary to determine what he did in Pakistan and whether he helped their army directly or indirectly. The background of the visit must be determined,” Salma said.

He said: “About the question of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's trip to Pakistan, but he went there in his official capacity. If Gogoi went there as part of the formal delegation, we wouldn't ask questions, but he went there in his personal capacity and we want to know who accepted him in that country.”

The Chief Minister claimed that the Special Investigation Team (SIT) asked Pakistan's state Ali Ali Tauqeer Sheikh and his partners in India had completed the investigation, “We have evidence that he has evidence that he has evidence that he [Gogoi] Passed by Waga-Tali border”.

He added: “However, we need to complete the statutory provisions to verify the data, which takes time. We have started the process and by September 10, we will be done.”

Mr. Salma claimed that he sat “going to the necessary places…but there was a procedure to collect evidence”.

Salma said MPs reported on visiting Israel that he lost his passport, which led to “losing valuable data.”

CM Sarma said Mr Gogoi brought 90 youths to the Pakistani embassy after returning from Pakistan, many of whom later claimed they did not tell them in advance that they were taken there.

“This is for radical young people,” he claimed.

CM claims that in his family, only Mr. Gogoi is an Indian national, who surrendered to his two children's Indian citizenship.

“After the record evidence is obtained, we show it to the Prime Minister’s Office that once the case is handed over to a central agency, there will be more room for investigation,” he said.

He added: “The Assam government has limited jurisdiction over the matter and can be excavated to a certain extent.”

Although Mr. Goggo did not receive any immediate reaction, Congress leaders had earlier accused Mr. Salma of indulging in politics by dragging his family, his wife and children into the matter.

“On the other hand, Congress is working on politics for the people, poor children and unemployed youth in Assam. Children do not get textbooks in schools. Poor parents are forced to sell their children to smuggling networks due to extreme poverty. School dropout rates are high,” he said.

He also asked what happened to the SIT investigation to investigate his so-called Pakistani connection with his wife and dared to make Assam CM public to make the findings public.

Assam CM has been attacking the deputy leader of the Congress of Lok Sabha, allegedly linked to Pakistan's spy agency ISI.
