Will Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli be included in India in the upcoming Test Series against England? In Indian cricket a few years ago, this problem seemed unimaginable. Both Rohit and Kohli are considered staunch in Indian cricket, so it is both pathetic and surprising to see their position in the team yet to be confirmed. But, this is the essence of cricket.
Both veterans struggled in Test cricket in recent series and despite many opportunities, they still failed to meet expectations. This situation became so terrible that Rohit even had to pull himself out of the game in the final test against Australia.
Although Kohli and Rohit performed well in the IPL, it is not yet certain whether these performances are enough to ensure they are on the English Tour of the Indian squad. Maybe they will lay off employees, but so far there is no official confirmation. Even Indian coach Gautam Gambhir kept fans' speculation by refusing to confirm the player's position in the England Test.
Speaking at the ABP News Summit, Gambill said: “The job of a coach is not a choice, but a job that the selector wants to choose. The public should know that the selector chooses, and the coach only selects 11 players from the team to participate in the game.”
He added: “So the perception that the coach is the selector is not true. The coach in front of me is not me the selector. When they come here, they choose five selectors. If you call them, they will give you a better answer.”
Although the future of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli's test is still uncertain, there is no doubt that their position in ODI. Both players expressed their commitment to continue playing until the 2027 ODI World Cup. Former cricketer Gautam Gambhir believes that as long as they continue to deliver on the spot, their performance will not be a problem.
“Until the time they perform, they should definitely be part of it. When you start, when you finish, it's your personal decision. There's no coach, no chair, and no selector.”
“You've been performing; whether you're 40 or 45, play until you're 40; no one stops you. The 2027 World Cup is their decision, and their performance is more important than that. You can only choose their performance in the team. You see the championship trophy, their performance, how they perform, I can tell you, I tell you, the world has seen, the country has seen, they have seen, they have seen, they have seen, they have seen, they have seen, they have seen.
BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia said the England Tour will be selected within two weeks. An Indian player is already in the pool and will compete in the three-day four-day competition ahead of the Test Series that begins on June 20.
