Volvo veteran Hakan Samuelsson serves as CEO for 2 years

Volvo Cars AB said Hakan Samuelsson, who served as CEO from 2012 to 2022, will retake the helmsman as Swedish automakers try to navigate their looming U.S. tariffs to lift it out of the situation.

Samuelsson will replace Jim Rowan on April 1 and serve two years on the board when it seeks a long-term successor, the company said in a statement Sunday.

“With the rapid development of technology, the growing complexity of geopoliticals and the intensification of competition across regions, the board believes that the company is best served by leaders by having deep industrial experience, deep knowledge of our group, and the ability to execute in challenging environments,” Volvo Cars said.
Volvo Cars is one of the European automakers next week for all imported passenger and light trucks and key auto parts. Headquartered in Gothenburg, Sweden and listed on the Nasdaq Stockholm Exchange, Volvo was purchased from Ford Motor in 2010 by Geely Automobile Holdings.
