Modi, Vance Summit discusses tariffs

New Delhi: During the highly anticipated four-day visit, U.S. Vice President JD Vance will arrive in New Delhi on Monday morning for an official visit and will hold talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the evening, followed by a dinner for the Vance family at his residence. The U.S. vice president, accompanied by his Indian-welfth wife Usha and his children, will also visit Jaipur on Tuesday and Agra on Wednesday. Vance will arrive in New Delhi after visiting Italy, where he will be viewing with Pope Francis in the Vatican on Easter Sunday.
It will be the first time the U.S. visit the U.S. since the Trump administration announced reciprocity tariffs on several countries, including India, before reopening it for 90 days earlier this month, with the exception of China. Since terrorist and former Pakistan Army official Tahawwur Rana was extradited to India last week last week, it will also be the first visit from the U.S. side, as he was heard by judicial officials in Indian courts in the 26/11 attacks in the November 2008 terrorist attack in Mumbai.
The U.S. Vice President, accompanied by his wife and children, met Modi earlier at the AI summit held in France in February. Modi later visited the United States and held talks with U.S. President Donald Trump.
India and the United States are negotiating a bilateral trade agreement that is expected to be completed this fall. Focusing on China in the region, the two countries also have strong defensive ties. Another key aspect of their relationship is the initiative of Key and Emerging Technologies (ICETs) launched a few years ago, in which strategic cooperation has been deepened and expanded across key technology areas, including space, semiconductors, advanced telecommunications, artificial intelligence, artificial intelligence, quantum, biotechnology and clean energy. During the visit, global issues will also be discussed, including the Indo-Pacific, the Russian-Ukrainian war and the situation in West Asia.
During Vance’s visit, New Delhi said last week: “The vice-president and his delegation will have other engagements in Delhi and are also scheduled to visit Jaipur and Agra before departing for Washington DC on April 24. The visit will provide an opportunity for both sides to review the progress in bilateral relations and the implementation of the outcomes of the India-US joint statement issued on February 13 during the visit of the Prime Minister to the US. The two sides will also exchange views on regional and global. ”
The White House vice-chairman’s office also said that last week, Vice-Chairman JD Vance, accompanied by his (Indian-primitive) wife Usha and his children, will visit Italy from April 18 to 24, and then India. “In India, the vice president will visit New Delhi, Jaipur and Agra”, the newsletter said. It added that Vance and his family “will also participate in engagement at the cultural site.” The cultural sites to which the Vice President and his family will visit are expected to include the Taj Mahal in Agra and the Amber Fort in Jaipur. Sources said the Vance family can also visit the Akshadham Temple in New Delhi.
As we all know, Modi will share excellent personal rapport with President Trump, and this visit will highlight India’s close ties with the United States under the Trump administration. Observers see the visit to India as a strong message to China, which is currently involved in a fierce trade war with the United States.
