Google layoffs: 200 sales, partnership work as money goes to AI and data centers.

On May 6, Google put at least 200 people in its global business unit on May 6, according to a report from the information source.

The report was also carried by Reuters, which reported in a statement from the company that Google “makes a small number of changes across the team” aimed at increasing collaboration and customer service.

It is worth noting that Silicon Valley tech giants are increasingly prioritizing the development of artificial intelligence (AI) and the allocation of data centers that run AI tools, while reducing other investments.

Google layoffs: Android, Chrome, Pixel employee axe

Last month, on April 10, Google laid off hundreds of employees working in its platform and device divisions, including working on Android OS, Chrome Browser and Pixel phones, sources told the information. On April 15, the Business Standards report said that these efforts included certain roles in Google’s offices in Bangalore and Hyderabad.

Sources quoted in the report also claimed that Google plans to lay off jobs in India in advertising, marketing and sales.

“Since we have been working to become more agile and more efficient since we combined the platform and device team last year, which includes reducing work in addition to the voluntary exit program we provided in January,” a Google spokesperson said in a statement to the message.

Technical layoffs: hundreds of jobs laid off since 2023

Since January 2023, Google has abandoned at least 12,000 employees (6% of its global workforce). This is announced by the parent company letters. The report said that as of December 2024, the tech giant had 1,83.323 employees.

Letters are not alone. It added that in January 2025, the Facebook parent Meta platform, led by Mark Zuckerberg, cut 5% of its employees, which it said was “the lowest performer.” The company also announced an increase in recruitment of machine learning engineers.

Reuters reported that in September 2024, Microsoft gave 650 Xbox employees a pink slip, while Apple laid off 100 jobs, while Amazon abandoned its entire unit last year.
