Google redirects all searches to Google.com, retirement country specific domain

Google has announced that it will redirect country code top-level domains (CCTLDs) for Google to search for Google.com, aiming to simplify the global user experience.

Users around the world visit specific countries such as Google.co.in (India) or google.co.uk (UK). However, Google said that in the future, all search users will be directly accessed to Google.com.

“This change will be rolling out gradually in the coming months and may prompt you to re-enter some search preferences along the way,” Google said in a blog post.

Google stressed that this update will not affect the search functionality or how companies comply with national laws. “It is important to note that while this update will change what people see in the browser’s address bar, it will not affect how searches work and the way we perform our obligations under national laws,” the company added.

The search giant noted that if users use Google.com or their country’s CCTLD, they began offering “the same experience with local results for everyone using searches” in 2017. “Due to this improvement, there is no longer a national-level area,” Google explained.
