To curb minor driving, Chittoor area police conducted a special drive on Monday against “secondary driving” between Chittoor subdivisions. The operation resulted in the seizure of 100 cars, including SUVs, and imposed a fine of Rs 1.05 lakh on parents and guardians.

The driving is at the police VN Manikanta Chandolu and SP (Chittoor) T. The police officers of Sainath were supervised.

Speaking to the media, SP said: “As part of special driving, minors driving two-wheeled vehicles and cars are intercepted and vehicles are caught. Driving safely is both personal and social responsibility, and parents should strictly avoid providing vehicles to their minor children. The legal age for driving is 18 years old and a valid permit is mandatory.”

The parents and guardians of minors were called and consulted and emphasized the legal and safety implications of allowing minors to deal with cars.

Deputy SP Sainath warned that repeat offenders would be severely punished, including permanent seizure of vehicles and cancelling parents’ driving licenses.

Police urge parents not to provide vehicles to minors under any circumstances. “When a minor deals with a vehicle, it not only endangers the danger, but it is a punishment crime,” he said.

The SP agent also called on educational institutions to expand full cooperation. “If students under the age of 18 ride bicycles on campus, then the management of schools and universities must inform parents,” he said. The special team will be released at major educational institutions to keep minors watching in driving vehicles.
