Kakinada: Pithapuram police arrested Pasupureti Sailaja alias Pedapati Sailaja and her mother Pasupureti Annavaram on Monday, in Pasupureti Annavaram, Pithapuram, Kakinada district, on Monday, responsible for killing a five-month girl, Pedapati Yashmitha and throwing her body nearby.
Later, the defendant placed turmeric, saffron and lemon in front of their home, leading others to believe that some wizards had imposed spells and killed the baby.
The baby’s father, Pedapati Satish, suspected of a foul and filed a complaint with the pithapuram police.
Pithapuram Circle inspector G. Srinivas, who led a team investigating the case, told the media that Satish in Narasingapuram village and Sailaja in Pithapuram belong to two different castes. A few years ago, they went against the will of both families. But Satish did not take his wife Seraha to his parents’ home.
Five months ago, Seraha gave birth to a baby girl. Neither Satish nor his relatives’ parents came to visit Sailaja and saw the baby. Around this time, Seraha began to feel that her husband did not take care of her properly after giving birth to her baby girl.
Meanwhile, Sailaja’s mother Annavaram wants her daughter to marry her nephew. She convinced her daughter to kill the baby so that Seraha could marry her nephew.
Pithapuram police have registered the case.
