Deputy Chief Minister and Bengaluru Development Minister DK Shivakumar on Monday inspected several civic works ongoing in the city and laid the foundation for many on Monday. The Greater Bangalore Governance Act of 2024 will come into effect on May 15.

“A major cleaning campaign will be underway after the establishment of Greater Bangalore. Citizens will be able to report garbage dumping through hotlines and municipalities will ensure a quick response.” This is part of the broader goal of creating a “cleaning Bangalore” by combating illegal waste disposal mafia and simplifying waste management.

He further said that after the recent order of the Karnataka High Court, the government can call for a new tender within four months for waste disposal within four months, and a new tender for integrated waste management will be called soon in the future. “We found several people sitting in a house and submitting evidence of multiple tenders. They even complained to the opposition. Even now, they are still trying to adopt different strategies. However, we are committed to clean governance and building a clean Bangalore.”

Later in the day, Mr Shivakumar emphasized quality and durability during a field inspection of the White Top Road work in Bangalore. “The white top road must last at least 30 years. I not only randomly checked the works at the locations chosen by the officials. I went down at the locations chosen and checked the quality myself. In today’s inspection, I noticed that the road was only half a foot thick and asked the officials to correct the same problem,” he said.

With the approaching monsoon season, he stressed preparation and ensured citizens remain vigilant to prevent flood-like situations.

He acknowledged that progress would not be made overnight, but was guaranteed to change phases through tunnels, underground passages and better connectivity.

Pulikeshinagar’s Rs 11 billion

Speaking at the Foundation release event of a 4 MLD (million litres per day) capacity water treatment plant in the Pulikeshinagar Parliamentary Constituency, Mr Shivakumar announced that more than Rs 1,100 crore investments have been invested in the constituencies of roads, overpasses and ward developments.
