Gujarat government raises income limits for parents

Gandhinagar: The Gujarat government has raised the income limit for school admissions under the Right to Education (RTE) Act 2009, which is Rs 6 lakh per year for parents. Previously, the limit was Rs 1.2 lakh and Rs 1.5 lakh in rural and urban areas respectively.

Under the RTE Act of 2009, 25% of seats in private schools are reserved for free admission to children from weaker and marginalized groups. The admission process for grade 1 in RTE will begin on March 16, 2025.

The state government insists that from now on, in rural and urban areas, all parents with annual income of Rs 6 lakh or less will be eligible to apply, which will ensure that more eligible students benefit from year 1 admissions under RTE.
It is important to note that children aged six will be eligible to enroll on June 1, 2025.
