Gunda Murder: Five, including father and son, two brothers, handed over to life

A court in Gundha in Uttar Pradesh sentenced five men, including a father-son duo and two siblings, to life imprisonment related to the 2018 murder and attempted murder.

Additional Meeting Court Judge and Special Judge (POCSO Act) Rajesh Narayan Mani Tripathi also fined the offender on Friday (April 11, 2025).

According to other regional government legal counsel (criminal) Manmohan Mishra, a person named Ramdayal, a resident of the village of Ashiya filed a complaint at the Kaudhiya police station on November 14, 2018.

He claimed that his brother Rameshwar Prasad and nephew Nephew Ram Anuj were attacked by land disputes while returning from the field.

Defendant-Maniram (62) and his Mata Prasad (35); Rajesh Kumar (35) and Madhavraj (40), son of Ram Kailash; Sanwali Prasad (70), son of Budhai, are residents of the same village. He said Ramdal claimed the defendant attacked his relatives with the intention of killing people.

Rameshwar Prasad was injured in the district hospital that day, while his nephew was seriously injured.

“After the incident, the police registered a case under various parts of the Indian Penal Code, including 147 (riots), 148 (handed with deadly weapons), 302 (murder), 307 (murder) (tempted murder), 325, 323, 504 and 506, and filed a charge in court after the investigation.”

During the trial, additional conference judges and special judges (POCSO Act) Rajesh Narayan Mani Tripathi reviewed evidence, witness testimony and legal arguments from both sides. “The five defendants were found guilty and the court sentenced them to life imprisonment and fined Rs 29,500,” the lawyer said.

He said: “The judge also ruled that if the fine is not paid, each offender will serve an additional 26 months in prison.
