Gurugram’s district sheriff and regional disaster management chairman Ajay Kumar ordered the evacuation of three towers in District 109 of the three towers in the Chintels Paradiso Group Housing Society after announcing an announcement in a structural audit report that the tower was unsafe.
However, the Housing Association’s Resident Welfare Association (RWA) said the order was called without proper planning.
Mr Kumar said that in its investigation report, the Central Institute of Architecture announced towers A, B and C for towers A, B and C in accordance with the issuance directions of Article 163 of the Indian Civil Defense Code and Article 34 of the Disaster Management Act. The order said that, according to the report, the district magistrate judge has directed the immediate evacuation of the residents involved in order to prevent dangers to human life, health and safety.
Two women were killed and several others were injured when the floor collapsed on the six-story apartment of the Group Housing Association’s 18-story tower in February 2022. The debris fell on the first floor of the building and fell on the first floor of the building, leaving four members of the two families on the first and second floors.
Since then, six of the nine towers have been evacuated.
The order said residents will have to evacuate their respective homes within two weeks and hand over their vacant property to M/s Chintels India, India. Regional Town Planners (Law Enforcement) have been appointed as node officers and on-duty magistrates to monitor orders.
The order said that legal proceedings will be filed against those who do not comply with the instructions.
“We strongly condemn the insensitivity of the regional administration, especially DC Gurugram, which failed to address key issues before issuing this sudden order,” the RWA of the Group Housing Association said in a press statement.
Impossible tasks
“This sudden evacuation order shocked residents, who are now facing an impossible task to secure alternative accommodation in just 15 days. The lack of preparation and failure to interact with affected homeowners in a structural manner suggests a blatant disregard for residents’ well-being,” the statement.
The RWA demanded an immediate cessation process until issues related to rent payments and financial compensation were addressed completely, a clear roadmap for reconstruction was proposed, and appropriate rehabilitation arrangements were made for affected families.
Calling Mr. Kumar for his response was not answered.
