A Guzman Y Gomez worker was photographed on a grill to clean the elevated vents, causing disgust.

A big box office client filmed the incident in Melbourne with the title: “Is this how you maintain your food hygiene? So disappointing.

In the clip, the worker wipes the ventilation holes with a cloth and stands on the grill in the kitchen.

Next to him is a stove top that shows hot food being cooked on it.

His other colleagues, three other colleagues, can work while he cleans.

Video of the incident was shared with Tiktok, and social media users slammed the sight.

One person commented: “I can’t believe my eyes, I’ve been here all the time.”

Another said, “I will never order from them again.”

Others quickly defended the staff, claiming that the method was the standard in the industry.

One person said: “You do this in every workplace with a barbecue, we do the same thing where we work, and obviously the grill is cleaned.”

Another added: “For most restaurants, there is absolutely nothing wrong.”

“If the details of the range hood are cleaned, the grill will be fine after cleaning,” the fourth wrote.

There was also debate about whether the staff were standing on a separate platform between the grill and the feet.

The customers who shared the video said they couldn’t see anything between the grill and the staff.

“There is no mat at all,” they wrote.

Guzman Y Gomez slammed the behavior in a statement to the Australian Daily Mail.

“We know this incident does not align with GYG’s commitment to food safety and the safety of our crew and guests,” a spokesperson said.

‘The shared video shows actions that do not match GYG’s program or standards.

“We take this matter seriously and are currently investigating the situation to ensure that the problem is properly resolved.

“We appreciate our understanding of our guests and continue to work on providing an excellent experience.”
