GVMC has no confidence in YSRC mayor movement

Visakhapatnam: In a major political development, the NDA coalition passed the large Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation Mayor Golagani Hari Venkata Kumari at the meeting of the GVMC committee of the YSRC party, which began at 11 a.m. on Saturday.
The meeting began before the 74 members of TD, Jana Sena, BJP and those who transferred their loyalty from YSRC to these parties. YSRC partners boycotted the meeting. The trustless motion was successfully passed all 74 corporate owners and Ex-Officiio members on the vote for this.
However, victory is not without obstacles. Gajuwaka 73rd Ward company Bhupathi Raju Sujatha recently joined the YSRC alliance and exited the alliance, reducing the majority to 73 members. However, the alliance was supported by Priyanka Lakshmi, daughter of former YSRC minister Avanti Srinivas.
Those who favored the motion of distrust formed 63 corporate owners and 11 former members.
TD sources said Peela Srinivas has become a candidate for the league to serve as mayor. He is expected to serve as GVMC’s new mayor on Monday.
When the GVMC election was held four years ago, YSRC won 58 parties in 98 wards, and the party’s Golagani Hari Venkata Kumari continued to become mayor. As time goes by, four independents and one TD candidate join the YSRC.
The political landscape has changed dramatically after the NDA league won the 2024 election. Many YSRC companies rebel against TD and JS, 19 joined TD and remained consistent with JS. Several independents are also associated with these political parties.
After the readjustment, 58 companies signed a motion of distrust against the mayor, laying the foundation for Saturday’s special council meeting.
YSRC attempts to respond to the motion by showing list companies that switch to TD and JS in its list companies. YSRC leaders cited Rule 9(d) of no confidence in the 2008 Mayor’s Rule 9(d) and introduced the whip to regional collector MN Harindra Prasad.
With the passing of a motion of distrust, YSRC leaders asked collectors to provide the names of those who voted for and against the motion of no trust. Once the list is received, they plan to hear the case legally.
