Bellagave police have arrested a man from a Gujarat village on charges of deceiving two elderly people in Bellagave area who ended their lives in their home a few weeks ago.
The defendant Chirag Jeevarajbai Lakkad of Surat area was arrested on Monday.
He is said to have forced Diego Nazareth, 83, and his 79-year-old wife, Flaviana Nazareth, to transfer Rs 6.1 lakh to his account in Beedi Village near Hanapur, as they threatened to threaten them with digital arrests.
They were found dead in the village of Beedi in the Belagarve area on March 28, 2025.
They left detailed notes, naming some of the people who harassed them and those who owe money.
Police found that the victim had transferred funds to an account under the name of Balaji Industries of IDFC Bank.
Chirag uses mobile phone numbers associated with bank accounts in his mobile phone to transfer the money to various bank accounts.
Police seized two phones used to transfer the money.
The defendant has been remanded in judicial custody.
