The draft proposal has increased the consumption licensing fee from the Karnataka government, angering wine merchants in Bangalore. The draft notice will be issued on May 15 and will take effect on July 1, when the license will begin renewal. The licensing renewal fee increased nine years later, which is part of a larger delay in GST revenue.

According to KT Lokesh of the Association of Bangalore Wine Chambers of Association of Bangalore, the licensing fees are very high, which could lead to losses as the business has also declined. “Although the government has requested since the budget phase, the government has decided to raise the price of alcohol and licensing fees.”

Similarly, the CL6A fee has increased from Rs 11.5 lakh to Rs 2.3 lakh, and the CL fee has increased from Rs 9.77 lakh to Rs 19.5 lakh. For CL9, the fee increased from Rs 8.62 lakh to Rs 1.72 lakh. Similarly, licensing fees in other areas have been revised. The government has also doubled the licensing fees for breweries and warehouses from Rs 4.5 lakh to Rs 9 lakh and breweries from Rs 2.7 lakh to Rs 5.4 lakh.

“The government earns an average of Rs 12 billion per day from the indented salary of alcohol. We hope to protest the rate hike by not buying alcohol,” a source said in a two-day protest.
