Home Minister vows to support sugarcane farmers affected by factory closures in Vizianagaram area

Home Minister Vangalapudi Anitha on Monday promised to take care of the interests of sugarcane farmers in the context of many sugar mills closures in the region. As the responsible minister of the region, she reviewed the development activities at a meeting held by the Vizianagaram Collectors’ Office.

Ms. Anitha said in the speech that many farmers stopped growing sugar cane because there was little chance of exporting it as the area closed sugar plants. She directed agricultural officials to ensure adequate supply of seeds and fertilizers were provided to farmers and to stop selling at high prices on the open market. Ms Anitha said the government is prioritizing canals for all irrigation projects to increase crop area in the area. Some law firms have asked the Home Secretary to develop an action plan to follow up on decisions made by the Regional Review Conference. Regional collector BR Ambedkar told the minister that the regional government has taken the necessary steps to overcome drinking water problems in Vizianagaram City and elsewhere and has provided people with adequate drinking water and alternative arrangements have been adopted.
