ED officials pose cyber fraud when trying to arrest singer Srikanth digitally

Karimnagar: Police said on Sunday that cybercriminals tried to “digital arrests” by impersonating law enforcement officials and extorted Rs 3 lakh from event organizer and singer Chiliveri Srikanth.

Srikanth, a resident of Sainagar, received a WhatsApp video call while attending a wedding in the outskirts of Hyderabad. The caller claimed Srikant’s name appeared in a money laundering case against 257 people and ordered him to remain isolated under “digital arrests.” Other voices made by CBI officials when Srikanth urged details.

Srikanth suspected of fraud, refused to pay, ended the call and reminded Karimnagar police. City officials have registered for complaints and investigated. They warn the public to be cautious about unsolicited legal notices, verify official certificates and report any suspicious calls immediately.
