How common are megac viruses?

In Finland, researchers isolated a megacity virus for the first time – 200 nanometers in diameter, about twice the size of influenza or coronavirus, known as Jyvaskylavirus. The findings suggest that megacities in the northern region are more common than researchers think. It also shows that there are still many structures whose origins and functions have not been properly studied. In recent years, giant viruses have been found to be as big as bacteria. These viruses infect amoeba and other microscopic organisms. Most of the megacity viruses discovered so far have been found in Europe and South America, with little known life cycle and distribution. When the environmental samples were mixed with Amoeba cultures, a megac virus called Jyvaskylavirus was found. Acanthamoeba Castellanii. Reseachers elucidates the genome and structure of Jyvaskylavirus, which is associated with Marseilleviruses that were previously isolated from France. Other new megawaviruses were also detected in the environmental samples. New megawavirus regulates microbial populations in soil. The findings suggest that even in northern environments, megacities are more common than ideas in soil and water.
