Gold Smuggling Case: Actress Ranya Rao’s husband, Jatin Hukkeri, seeks exemption from arrest.
Actress Ranya Rao, who is involved in the Goldsmuggling case, is still arrested in jail, while Ranya Rao’s husband, Jatin Hukkeri, has sought exemption and filed a request in court. Seeking waivers, Prabhuling Navadagi, an advocate of Hawkri, issued a statement in court saying Hukkeri married Ranya Rao in November and the two separated in December. The advocates also say the two are informally separated, albeit unmoved, on some of their issues.
The Karnataka High Court ordered police not to take any action against Ranya Rao’s husband Jatin Hukkeri until the next hearing. The High Court also said at a brand new hearing that the order will continue until next Monday, when the next hearing. But, Tax Intelligence Agency (DRI) attorney Madhu Rao said they will file a dispute next Monday.
Jatin Hukkeri had earlier appealed to the court for his arrest because he was worried that he could also be detained by police due to his marriage to actress Ranya Rao. Jatin Hukkeri is famous after Ranya’s stepfather IPS officer Ramachandra Rao mentioned his stepdaughter’s marital status. He once said that after Ranya Rao got married, she began to keep her distance from her family. Ramachandra Rao, managing director of Karnataka State Police Housing and Infrastructure Development Corporation, issued a statement shortly after Ranya Rao’s arrest, and his contacts with her have become numerous since then.
DGP Ramchandra Rao has been sent to mandatory leave until further orders. Ranya Rao was released on bail to the court in Bengaluru. Her move was here after the Special Court for Economic Crimes denied her bail.
In refusing to bail Ranya Rao, the Special Court for Economic Crime said the allegations against the actress were serious. She was arrested on March 3 at the Tax Intelligence Agency (DRI) Bureau of Kempegowda International Airport (KIAD) in Bangalore for allegedly smuggling 14.8 kilograms of gold from Dubai.
CBI’s complaint against DRI’s additional director Abhishek Chandra Gupta has filed FIR in the Gold Smuggling Case.
