Powerloom Weavers withdraws a month-long strike in Coimbatore, Tirupul district

The 125,000 giants in the Coimbatore and Tyripur regions that have been on strike since March 19 are expected to resume production from Tuesday.

The owners of Powerloom units in Pudhupalayam located in Somanal, Avenasi, Kannaparayan, Tekale, Perumanal and Coimbatore and Tiripur regions underwent a strike to demand the wages paid to the master weavers. They claimed that the weaver headquarters were paying 2014 wages, which was not feasible because the cost of inputs increased.

Minister K. Senthilbalaji and MP Saminathan held talks in Coimbatore on Sunday evening and agreed to work with the Master Weaver and the owner of the Powerloom unit before officials, the Weaver Master agreed to raise wages by 15% while the other varieties were 10%.

Hiking will come from an agreed salary in 2022.

Em Bohopathi, president of the Powerloom Weavers Association of Coimbatore Tiruppur, said weavers have also been indefinitely indefinitely since Tuesday, and they withdraw their fasts on Sunday night. He claimed that production losses were Rs 1,000 crore due to the strike.
