The deck was finally cleared for the long-awaited Hyderabad-Amaravati Greenfield Expressway project, connecting the capital cities of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, respectively. It has ended more than 11 years of waiting since the former Manchester United Fork.
Prepare the direction of DPR
The Ministry of Home Affairs, the node agency that addresses the pending fork problem, has directed the Ministry of Roads, Transport and Highways (MORTH) to prepare a detailed project report (DPR) for the Hyderabad-Amaravati Greenfield Expressway on Tuesday (9 April 2025). At the meeting of the Telangana Government on February 3, 2014, on February 3, 2014, the Telangana Government implemented strong assurances for the implementation of the Andhra Pradesh National Reorganization Act (APRA), which was held in the meeting of the Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan and the heads of relevant departments.
Arrange XIII on fast railway and road connection between the two capitals
The Telangana government has been insisting on implementing the assurances of Greenfield Expressway’s APRA Schedule XIII. Schedule XIII of the bill says: “The central government should take steps to establish rapid railway and road connectivity from Andhra Pradesh’s new capital, Amaravati, to other important cities in Hyderabad and Tlanganana.”
The issue was raised again at the meeting on February 3, with Secretary Morse informing it that this was a new proposal and therefore, a alignment liquidation would need to be taken before further action was carried out. Mr. Govind Mohan suggested that the Union Department might consider starting the program detailed project report and approving the project in principle, thereby obtaining approval from the Union Government.
Telangana wants highway to Machilipatnam
However, the approval failed to meet the expectations of the Telangana government for a faster trip to Telangana because Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy supports Greenfield Expressway to Machilipatnam. The Chief Minister discussed the matter with his Andhra Pradesh N. Chandrababu Naidu and his colleagues at a face-to-face meeting on July 8 last year and explained the plan for Telangana to establish a dry port in the area adjacent to the Hyderabad-Vijayawada Expressway.
Mr Naidu also agreed with Mr Reddy, claiming that an improvement in connectivity between the two capitals would be a confidence-building measure to further strengthen the relationship between the two Telugu-speaking countries. The two states have since held several meetings with the United Roads, Transportation and Highways Departments seeking advance permits.
