“I want to end the war, but I’m not sure if Russia is ready”: Ukrainian President Zelensky

Zelenskyy stressed Ukraine’s willingness to pursue a complete ceasefire without preconditions, a proposal made by U.S. President Donald Trump, while stressing the need for Russia to show real commitment through concrete actions.
“I don’t know the principles of the Russian side. As I know from our conversation with President Trump, the Russian side wants to send us memorandums on how they view the principles, and they want not only to see a ceasefire;
He added: “I really expect everyone to be very interested in the ceasefire. Too much loss; we really want to end this war. I’m not sure if Russia is ready, we don’t trust them. That’s what we want: the first step, the ceasefire, to show that they’re really ready to stop the war.”
The Ukrainian President also highlighted his ongoing communication with international partners, saying: “I always share with all our partners, with the United States, with Europeans…I am very happy when President Trump proposes a full ceasefire without any conditions or prerequisites. We are ready. We have done it for it.”
Zelenskyy’s remarks follow his engagement in a call with Trump and European leaders, during which he reaffirmed Ukraine’s reading for direct negotiations with Russia.This development follows after US President Trump announced that Russia and Ukraine would “immediately” begin negotiations towards a ceasefire and a potential end to the ongoing war, with the Vatican offering to host the talks after the recent failure of ceasefire talks in Istanbul, despite agreeing to exchange prisoners between the two countries.
