Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde said on Wednesday (16 April 2025) that he was a “pilot” when a “development aircraft” of the Maharashtra government took off, Devendra Fadnavis and Ajit Pawar were “co-pilots”.

President Shiv Sena spoke after inauguration and commercial passenger service in the airport in Amravati city in eastern Maharashtra.

Chief Ministers Fadnavis and Pawar also attended the meeting.

Mr Shinde claimed that work at Amravati Airport began when Fadnavis was Chief Minister between 2014 and 2019, but that came a pause when the Maha Vikas Aghadi coalition took office in 2019.

He said that when a “people’s government” (the Mahayoti government led by him) came to power in 2022, the construction of the airport was completed quickly.

Sind claimed in the MVA regime led by Uddhav Thackeray that several projects, welfare schemes have been closed and developments stalled before the arrival of the Dahai Yati government.

“When the development and welfare program took off, I was the pilot of the plane, Devendra Fadnavis and Ajit Pawar were the co-pilots. Now, Fadnavis is the pilot and we are the co-pilots. The pilot has changed now, but the “development aircraft” has changed, and we are the same speed.
