“If Barcelona’s principles are followed, all our problems can be solved”: Former Karnataka CM Bommai

Former Karnataka Chief Minister and MP Basavaraj Bommai said that forces promoting violence in the name of religion have emerged and that if the principles of Basawana, a 12th-century social reformer, could be found for all problems. He spoke at the Basava Jayanthi celebrations and the Basavashree and Vachana Sahitya Shree awards ceremony organized by Basava Vedike in Ravindra Kalakshetra. He described Basavana as a “wonderful personality”.
He said: “If someone claims to have fully understood Barcelona, it means they have not gained a real understanding yet. Barcelona is related to his time and still relevant today. In one dimension, he talks about the reality that existed at the time, and in another dimension, he talks about inequality and discrimination – still proud of us, what we are proud of ourselves, what we give, it is all we can be proud of, it is what we desire. Ideas.”
“There are three types of people in society,” Bomei said. “Some people only talk about the past and ignore the reality. The second is the revolutionaries – like the Salana movement, the freedom struggle and the Russian revolution. They didn't last long because we failed to advance their system. We called Basavana a revolutionary, but we also had to ask him what the revolution he started.”

“The third one is the reformers – like Buddha statues, Basawa and Mahavira. They go beyond time. We belong to such a great and rich history of personality. But if we only live in a temporary world without realizing it, we do not understand our deeper roots.”

He illustrated this with a metaphor: “Next to a well, there was a stream. The stream claimed superiority by saying it flowed and provided water to everyone, while the well just stood still. To this, the well replied that even though it stays in one place, it serves people in times of hardship. Similarly, Vachana literature is as valuable as any Vedas or Puranas–it is accessible and understandable even to common people.” Bommai reiterated Basavanna's Quote: “Compassion is the root of religion.” However, despite this, forces that promote violence in the name of religion emerged. “Even if a lot of things happens around us, we feel helpless. But we shouldn't be that way. We have to read and promote Basawa literature and build peace. Let the human dharma preached by Renukacharya win. We have forgotten our roots. If we persist to Basavanna, we will say all our problems. The state can be seen in real progress. The major changes in the world are not made by governments or great powers, but by individuals – Buddha, Prophet Muhammad, Basawana.

“They are all great people. In life, sacrificing alone is not enough. Only by realizing that it can be realized only when one shares the deepest truth. When Swami Vivekananda said he had been enlightened, his Guru Ramakrishna Paramahamsa told him, 'You can only be enlightened when you share with the world.' Following this advice, Vivekananda shared his knowledge with the world. ” he said.

He also said: “Nadoja Gr Channabasappa's writings are a great treasure. We must use his knowledge and power.”

Members of Congress said the future of Industry Minister MB Patil has a bright future. The future of the state should be related to his future. Bommai added: “You are serving FG Halakatti. A politician thinks about the next election, but one thinks about the next generation. You are working as a politician, working for the benefit of the next generation.”

The sacred existence of Sri Nirmalanandanatha Swamiji, head of Adichunchanagiri Math, has made the event respected. Railway V. Somanna, Minister of Industry MB Patil, President of Basava Vedike Dr. C. Somashekara and Vice President Shadakshari were also present at the Union Secretary of State.

By then, senior writer Gr Channabasappa received the Basavashree Award, while the Vachana Pitamaha FG Halakatti Research Foundation of MD Pallavi and Blde Institute won the Vachana Sahitya Shree Award.
