“If they don’t, the directors will…”

On top of that, Shoojit Sircar noted the rising cost of Bollywood actors, adding that some “popular actors” need to rethink their expenses – or risk losing opportunities.

It wasn’t easy for Bollywood to start 2025, as several big budget movies at the box office performed poorly. Even superstar Salman Khan’s Sikandar failed to meet expectations when Eid al-Fitr was released in cinemas, with famous actors and directors struggling to attract audiences to the theater. Director Shoojit Sircar has now shared his thoughts about possible problems with Hindi cinemas. One of the main problems, Sircar said in his conversation with ANI is the lack of adventure in storytelling.

On top of that, Shoojit Sircar noted the rising cost of Bollywood actors, adding that some “popular actors” need to rethink their expenses – or risk losing opportunities. “I won’t say much about people’s entourage or what they charge, but one thing I’m sure of: popular actors will have to lower the fees. If they don’t, the directors will stop approaching them.”

Shoojit Sircar also talks about how his production company (Rises Sun Movie) keeps costs by working with actors who understand the value that keeps the budget. “But we are not. For all the movies we make, we never let the cost be too high. That’s why we complain less. We work with the actors, and they know they’re working on a rising sun movie with Shoojit Sircar, and it’s not too high.”

So far, Vicky Kaushal’s blockbuster Chhaava remains the only box office.
