IICT will follow the same template as IIT and IIM: Vaishnaw

Mumbai: After announcing the establishment of the Institute of Creative Technology (IICT) at Goregaon Cinema City, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting on Saturday designed the software for the AVGC-XR community along with Jiostar, Adobe, Google, Google, YouTube and Meta. On the third day of the 2025 Inspur, representatives from IICT and leading industry giants exchanged letters of intent (LOIS), marking the launch of a long-term cooperative effort to advance India’s AVGC-XR ecosystem.
A central government official said union information and broadcast minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and Maharashtra chief minister Devendra Fadanvis will hold an interim IICT arrangement at the NFDC in Peddar Road within two weeks. The official said seven professional courses will be started at the temporary arrangement of the NFDC building.
“Initially, IICT will offer seven professional courses, as well as training training programs, setting new benchmarks for new benchmarks for academic and practical excellence,” the official said.
Speaking to the newspaper Prithul Kumar, joint secretary and managing director of NDFC, said they had handed over the five floors of the NDFC building to IICT to start temporarily to start classes designed for animation and digital audio-visual effects. “The five-story building's building is already equipped with state-of-the-art gaming labs, animation labs, editing and sound suites, virtual production settings, immersive studios, preview theaters and smart classrooms,” Kumar said.
The Indian government has been developing ICCT at the Institute of Technology of Prime Ministers (IIT) and the Institute of Management of India (IIM) – a national centre of excellence dedicated to the AVGC-XR sector. As part of this, global tech giants such as NVIDIA, Google, Apple, Microsoft, Star India, Meta and Adobe are working together for a long time to make IICT a world-class institution.
Microsoft, Google and Meta signed three memorandums through the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting in the presence of Alliance Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Saturday in the presence of Congress Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw. The official said the goal is to replicate India’s successful IT model in the creative and digital media sectors and to develop a sustainable ecosystem for future growth.
The central government has allocated Rs 4 billion to establish IICT and the land for the project is provided by the Maharashtra government. Ten acres of land in Mumbai Film City have been identified for the establishment of IICT.
A senior official said the first phase of the campus will be held at the NFDC building on Ped Road in southern Mumbai, while a large-scale second phase expansion is also planned on a 10-acre campus in Goregaon Film City. According to the official, leading global companies have partnered with IICT to support design course development, internships, scholarships, startup funding and job opportunities.
The Minister of Information and Broadcasting of the Union said: “IICT will follow the same template as IIT and IIM in India, transforming itself into a sprawling, world-class education and training centre for students who aspire to become professionals in the AVGC-XR field. We have launched an initiative, a media that is completely novel in the world of film and entertainment.
